Information for small businesses

Doing Business under an Assumed Name

Home Page

Small businesses may want to sell a line of merchandise which conflicts with their normal product line or dealer network. A hidden company can be incorporated as a separate entity or you could file to do business under the new company name. We are not attorneys and this is not legal advice. It is the lead in to the small business systems that need to be put in place to execute this plan. You will need a mailing address, telephone service and shipping arrangements for new company. You will be doing business out of your current location without it being visible to those with whom you do business.

Address

Search the Internet for “virtual office”. Check the offering for the type and location of address you want. Review the services offered. Will they forward mail to you? Will they accept and forward packages? Do they offer telephone service?

Telephone Service

How are you going to handle telephone calls? Do you want an 800 number? Do you want a local number? Do you want to accept Faxes? One suggested solution is Voice over internet protocol (VoIP). This is a telephone and Fax service that connects to you via the internet. They offer a great many services at a modest cost. Ring Central’s virtual phone system is currently the top rated service. We will be happy to assist you with your choice of search.

Shipping

You can ship with all your present carriers that offer “blind shipments”. A blind shipment lets you show a ship from address which is different from the actual address. UPS, FEDEX and most truckers accept blind shipments.

What’s next?

The process is simple if you decide in advance what services you need. We will be happy to answer your email questions on this subject. This is just one of many small business systems that we can help with. Consultation is always free.
